Health Science

Students working in health science

The Health Science program at Horace Maynard Middle School introduces students to one of the fastest-growing and most impactful career fields in Tennessee. Through hands-on learning, exploration of real medical skills, and early exposure to high-demand pathways, our students begin preparing for future careers in healthcare long before high school graduation.

At HMMS, 8th-grade students can enroll in Health Science Education, earning high school credit while exploring the foundations of medical knowledge, anatomy, patient care, and the many specialties within the healthcare system. As students progress to high school, these introductory experiences open the door to advanced coursework, industry certifications, clinical internships, and pathways such as:

  • Nursing Services
  • Therapeutic Services
  • Diagnostic Services

Our Health Science program is designed for students who are curious about how the body works, enjoy helping others, or want a career where every day brings something new. With strong local and statewide employment opportunities and clear pathways to certifications, degrees, and high-wage careers, HMMS students are gaining a powerful early start in one of Tennessee’s most essential industries.

Whether students dream of becoming nurses, EMTs, physical therapists, lab technicians, or healthcare assistants, CTE Health Science at Horace Maynard Middle School helps them build the skills, confidence, and foundation needed for long-term success.
