Career and Technical Education (CTE) at Horace Maynard Middle School gives students an early opportunity to explore their interests, discover future careers, and build real-world skills before they even reach high school. HMMS is proud to be a regional leader in offering introductory CTE courses to 7th and 8th graders—allowing students to gain hands-on experience and earn high school credit.

Students begin their journey by taking career assessments that help them identify pathways that match their strengths and goals. They can then choose from a variety of Level 1 CTE courses, experiencing fields like agriculture, health science, technology, construction, human services, culinary arts, and more. These courses blend academic learning with practical, hands-on activities that make learning meaningful and engaging.

CTE at HMMS prepares students for the next steps in their education by building foundational skills in problem-solving, teamwork, creativity, and technical knowledge. By starting early, students gain confidence, explore potential careers, and enter high school ready to choose a focused CTE pathway. Many HMMS students go on to earn certifications, participate in work-based learning, and continue toward postsecondary training or college.

With strong community support and a commitment to student success, HMMS’s CTE program helps students imagine their futures—then gives them the tools to achieve them.
